“Flowers really do intoxicate me.”
If you’ve ever seen or received a floral arrangement by Texas Master Florist, Lisa Wright, you know exactly what Vita is saying. Fiori by Lisa Wright is my favorite florist in town and Lisa is the first person I reach out to when I need beautiful blooms for a special event or occasion. With an eye for quality, color detail, and texture, Lisa’s arrangements are beautiful, intoxicating and lush. It’s not just Fiori’s flowers that make you head over heels and keep you coming back for more. Lisa’s engaging personality, her desire to create custom flowers for the recipient and her commitment to customer service is equally refreshing and contagious.
Lisa’s creative talents extend far beyond flowers. In fact, there’s really nothing she can’t do! A wife, mother of two and a small business owner are only a few of the hats she wears. Fiori by Lisa Wright opened in October 2014 and services range from floral design to event planning and group classes for floral design and wreath making. Lisa’s extensive credentials, experience, generous spirit and love for teaching sets her apart from so many other vendors in town.
With an academic background in education and years of experience as the manager and lead designer for Central Market Floral, Lisa truly shines in her field. Clients love her energy, creativity and respect for budget. It’s only natural that Lisa’s commitment to her craft is celebrated citywide. She is consistently spotlighted in the Houston Chronicle year after year. Whether it’s tips for arranging sunflowers or gerbera daisies, or designs for Valentine’s Day or Christmas, Fiori by Lisa is always on trend.
She beautifies her community in so many ways and enjoys sharing her time and beautiful flowers with her neighbors and friends. Lisa hosts floral demonstrations at the Houston Garden Club, designs arrangements for her children’s school auctions and fundraisers and can be seen volunteering, with her family, at the Westbury Park garden.
I met Lisa last year as I was thinking of hosting my last party before Jillian arrived. I’ve always loved the holidays and decided that a wreath making party would be perfect. I was referred to Lisa through a neighborhood Facebook group. As luck would have it, we live only a few minutes from each other and planning the event was a breeze. Brent and I put up the Christmas decorations early and invited a few friends and family over to enjoy this holiday event. Lisa was a great teacher and everyone had a blast. Then, as the saying goes, the rest is history! Over the past several months, Lisa’s flowers have brought so much joy and happiness to our home and our loved ones. It is for these reasons that I am so thrilled to feature Lisa as this month’s Dream Maker!
GETTING TO KNOW YOU
FIORI: I think flowers can be living expressions of people’s greatest emotions and I love helping people and being a part of their special moments. My bouquets hail new babies and baptisms, they ornament a blushing bride, and congratulate a graduate, They help mend and repair broken relationships, bring comfort to the sick and help to honor the ones who have passed. They add beauty to your home, and bring joy to ones life. There is a story behind each new order and I love being apart of it. I am part Psychologist as well as Florist!
Working with flowers also brings me so much joy. I love mixing colors and textures of flowers. When I am shopping for clients, I always gather in my hand first to see if the colors and textures work together. When they do, I feel so happy and inspired! I love adding the extra special touches to really make it perfect and a piece of art.
When sending flowers:
Flowers can say how we feel and express what we mean whether we are present or not. Can that really be considered an expense or is it more of an amazing investment? To some people flowers are an expensive extravagance while to others it is an emotional investment and money well spent because it can accomplish so much. Flowers can express emotions that sometimes words cannot. They offer us a way to show love, support, friendship, romance, sorrow and joy without even having to be present. For the cost of an arrangement, we can maintain relationships and uphold friendships.
When you think about this it seems that flowers are not expensive at all and that if someone truly matters to us, they are in fact an amazing investment. Don’t wait for someone to send you that bouquet!
When decorating at home:
Imagining someone sending you flowers and the big smile it brings to your face. Well imagine having that every day in your home! Studies have shown that having fresh flowers in your home increases happiness, reduces depression and anxiety, and can bring you closer to family and friends. In the workplace it gives people more energy, improves problem-solving skills and increases creativity. Get some Vitamin F delivered to your door; call me!
IDOPT: When buying flowers from the grocery store, farmer’s market, etc., what qualities or traits should someone look for to ensure they are choosing the highest quality flowers available?
- Study the flowers. Make sure they do not have faded or discolored petals or leaves.
- Choose flowers that have buds that are just beginning to open.
- Inspect the stem and choose strong, clean stems not soft or discolored. The discoloration means bacteria has entered the stems and will move upwards contaminating the leaves and flowers as the bacteria multiplies.
- Watch out for SLIME!
- Keep the water clean. Bacteria is the #1 killer of flowers!
- Use those packets of flower food that are piling up in your kitchen junk drawer!
- Change the water and add more food every few days.
- Flower food contains an acid to lower the PH of the water which encourages hydration, keeping the tiny tubes, or vessels, in the stem constantly drawing up water. It also has ingredients to keep the stem clear of bacteria and free flowing, as well as an energy source ( sugar) to nourish the flower.
- Redesign your arrangement by throwing out dead stems and re-cutting and rearranging the living ones. Often times you can change to a different vase or make several smaller arrangements.

IDOPT: What are the most important or distinguishing qualities a customer should look for in potential florists when choosing a professional for a special event or wedding?
FIORI: When meeting with a florist, ask yourself these questions after your consultation:
- Do you connect with the person and feel like they will fit your style and preference?
- Are they listening and understanding your vision for the event?
- Do they seem excited, inspired and full of ideas?
- Take a look at the florist work. Do you like what you see?
If you said “yes” to all of these questions, then you have a match.
